Yên Bái postpones festival to prevent storm

Local authorities in the northern province of Yên Bái have decided to postpone the Yên Bái Mid-Autumn Festival, which was scheduled to take place from September 8 to 11, to ensure safety amid the approach of Typhoon Nanmadol.

The festival, which typically attracts thousands of visitors, was set to feature a range of traditional activities, including lion dances, folk games, and a beauty contest. However, due to the forecasted heavy rains and strong winds associated with the typhoon, officials have made the difficult decision to postpone the event.

In a statement released on September 7, the provincial People's Committee expressed regret over the decision but emphasized the importance of prioritizing public safety. The committee noted that the safety of festival-goers and participants is paramount and that the postponement will provide ample time for necessary preparations and precautions.

The decision to postpone the festival has been met with understanding from the local community, who recognize the potential risks posed by the typhoon. Many residents have expressed their support for the authorities' decision, emphasizing that safety should be the top priority.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has advised residents to stay informed about the latest weather updates and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the storm. Authorities have also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and to secure their homes and belongings.

Typhoon Nanmadol is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam on September 10, bringing with it heavy rains and strong winds. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves inland, but it is still likely to cause significant damage and flooding in the affected areas.
