Huawei to Launch AI Chip in US Absence

Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies is on the verge of introducing a new chip designed specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The move comes as the company looks to capitalize on the US government's recent restrictions on the sale of advanced AI chips to China.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the new chip is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks. It will be the first AI chip developed by Huawei since the US government placed the company on a trade blacklist in May 2019. The blacklist has effectively cut Huawei off from access to US technology, including chips from companies like Nvidia and Qualcomm.

Despite the challenges, Huawei has continued to invest heavily in AI research and development. The company has established its own chip design arm, HiSilicon, which has been working on developing a new AI chip for the past several years. The new chip is expected to be based on the company's own Da Vinci architecture, which is designed for AI applications.

The launch of the new AI chip would be a major milestone for Huawei. It would allow the company to reduce its reliance on US technology and compete more effectively with global rivals like Nvidia. It would also send a strong signal that Huawei is determined to remain a major player in the AI market, despite the US government's efforts to contain its growth.
